About Nana

Nana is CEO of Élevé HealthWatch and founder of the Healthy Futures Ghana Initiative. She brings over 15 years of senior leadership from the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), combining clinical expertise with strategic vision. She is currently the National Senior Lead for NHS England’s Recovery Support Programme.

She studied Medical Biochemistry at Queen Mary University of London and trained at Barts Health NHS Trust. She recently completed an Executive MBA in Health at University College London (UCL), where she was awarded a 2024 Future Impact Leaders Scholar.

At NHS England, she led large-scale programmes including the nationwide Advice and Guidance initiative — a secure digital service enabling GPs to seek specialist advice directly from hospital consultants — driving transformation and championing equity in care. Nana has returned to Ghana with the skills and influence to build sustainable health systems and lead life-saving community interventions.

A Personal Mission

Nana Gyamfua’s journey is deeply personal. She lost her father to prostate cancer in Ghana, and her sister to stroke in the UK — two tragedies that ignited her determination to change the story for other families. Her mission is to bring preventive healthcare back to the communities that shaped her early life.

Leading Through Crisis: COVID-19

At the height of the pandemic, Nana directed a multi-million-pound programme to expand COVID-19 testing capacity across London — mobilising teams, deploying equipment, and building infrastructure at speed. The result was equitable testing access and lives saved during a global emergency, a testament to her resilience and precision under pressure.

Preventing Silent Killers: AAA Screening

She went on to lead London’s Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme, one of the UK’s most impactful preventive health initiatives — screening over 10,000 men a year and referring those at risk for life-saving stent procedures. Under her direction, the programme prevented more than 80 premature deaths annually, proving the power of early detection.

Hospital at Home: Care with Comfort

Nana also spearheaded Hospital at Home, delivering hospital-level care directly into patients’ homes. The model reduced unnecessary admissions and infection risk, improved recovery, and let people heal with dignity in familiar surroundings — showing that healthcare can be both efficient and deeply human.

Bringing It Back Home: Ghana

Through Élevé HealthWatch and the Healthy Futures Ghana Initiative, Nana is now bringing these proven models of care back to Ghana — closing gaps in screening, diagnosis, and treatment while building sustainable, community-based health systems that last.
